Real-life examples of counting in the natural environment

Grande plage de Houat

This dune cordon is subject to heavy use and natural erosion, but there were no figures available for the use of the paths. For one week during the summer, 10 Kiomda counters were installed at strategic beach access points. A summary map of the use of the various paths by time and direction of passage was produced and shared. The Conservatoire du Littoral then scheduled maintenance work on the dune cordon to better protect the site.

Cap Fréhel

Two challenges: to meet the maximum authorized capacity of 20,000 people, and to accommodate this crowd without damaging the natural site. Kiomda sensors were installed on the access road to the Pointe du Cap. Throughout the day, they transmitted footfall data that could be viewed in real time on smartphones. The figures proved to the organizers that the maximum capacity had been respected, and highlighted the saturation of the return shuttles.

Every year, several major cities organize Olympic Days to celebrate sport and its values. 4 Kiomda sensors were used to measure the public success of this event, with 3280 visitors counted on the banks of the Garonne in Toulouse. The organizing team tracked the number of participants on their smartphone. The figures were then used to justify the efforts made by the organizations present.

And how do
these counts work?

5 steps to
simplify counting

Contact us for a personalized quote (one-off rental, seasonal package, Purchase, number and type of metering points, etc.). Once the order is placed, you download the mobile application onto your Android or iOS smartphone. You'll be given a login and password to view your field counts.

As soon as the order is received, or a few days before the start of the count, the sensors are tested and sent by post. On receipt, they are immediately operational.

You install the sensor(s) in the field in just 2 minutes. An accompanying manual explains where to place the units to ensure reliable counting (avoid stagnation of the public, check the correct counting width, etc.).

During the automatic metering period, you can access real-time metering data on your smartphone to check that everything is running smoothly.

In the case of rental, once the counts have been completed, you return the sensors by post (using the prepaid return label). After receiving and checking the boxes, you'll receive an attendance report in PDF format, an infographic with key figures and your count data in Microsoft Excel format.
In the case of a purchase, this service, including maintenance, is included in the annual subscription associated with the unit.

My name is Jean-Claude Dubois, founder of Kiomda. My job is to provide reliable footfall figures to help showcase my customers' fieldwork.

For the past 15 years, my job as an electronics engineer has been to count pedestrians, cars and bicycles to generate benchmark figures and traffic reports.

Today, the miniaturization of new digital sensors and the arrival of connected objects make these tools available to field managers and organizers for seasonal counts across their entire territory.
